Though lucuma is most famous for its sweet flavour profile, its impressively low sugar content and naturally occurring vitamins and minerals make it the perfect compromise between the sweet tooth and the waistline.
Organic Carob powder
A member of the legume family, carob beans grow in pods on trees that originated in the Mediterranean region, but have since been grown in other parts of the world.
Carob powder has a number of advantages over Cocoa powder and as such is used to make ‘healthy chocolate'. Although Carob has a similar taste to chocolate, it has only one-third the calories (total 1595 calories per pound), is virtually fat-free (chocolate is half fat), is rich in pectin, is non-allergenic, has abundant protein, and has no oxalic acid, which interferes with absorption of calcium. It also helps regulates blood glucose.
Carob powder is free of the allergenic and addictive effects of caffeine present in Cocoa. It also contains less fat and more sugar than Cocoa. Cocoa has around 23% fat and 5% sugar while Carob contains approximately 7% fat and 42-49% sugar.
Apart from the health benefits obtained by substituting Carob for Cocoa, Carob also has excellent nutritional value. Along with up to 80% protein, it contains Magnesium, Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus, Potassium Manganese, Barium, copper, Nickel and the vitamins A, B, B2, B3, and D. It also has medicinal uses including the treatment of coughs and diarrhoea. It may also improve digestion, help to lower cholesterol, act as an antioxidant and be effective against asthma. Carob tannins contain gallic acid, also making it an analgesic, anti allergic and antibacterial. It is also antiviral and antiseptic. It is rich in phosphorous and calcium. For this reason, it is used in the fight against osteoporosis.
Organic Maca Powder
The Maca root is renowned for its numerous health benefits. Also commonly called "Peruvian Ginseng," Maca is a powerful adaptogen, which by definition is a substance (food or nutritive herb), which brings the body to a heightened state of resistance to disease through physiological and emotional health. Its high level of nutrients makes Maca a natural energiser. It acts as a cerebral stimulant and helps reduce stress and tiredness. Maca also enhances fertility, regulates hormonal activity and has been found to have antioxidant properties.
As Maca adapts to your body's metabolism, it works with your body to repair what needs to be repaired so that an optimal and ideal level of health and energy is maintained at all times, Maca is a great way of re-mineralizing your body, Maca is full of vitamins and minerals in the right combination and proportion that the body needs, so that the body can actually utilise them effectively.
Organic Ginseng
Ginseng has been used for the past 7000 years in traditional Asian medicine, mainly as an overall health promoting herb, by boosting the immune system. The adaptogenic effects of the herb (see above) is said to increase the body's ability to resist stress. This leads to an overall strengthening of the body and its functions, improving both physical and mental vitality. It is often prescribed for a variety of problems ranging from stress, failing memory, obesity, loss of stamina, poor concentration, flagging vitality, exhaustion, fatigue, improving fertility and virility as well as a general strengthening tonic for the body. Some also believe that it can be used in preventing certain cancers, and because it can improve blood circulation, it is also used by people in assisting with Alzheimer's disease.
In addition, many athletes use ginseng to boost their physical performance.
Organic Mesquite Powder
Mesquite is a traditional low glycaemic, highly nutritious Native American food produced by gathering ripened seed-pods from the mesquite tree and grinding them into a fine powder. It is a unique blend of proteins, carbohydrates, sugars, minerals and B complex vitamins.
Used as a staple food for centuries by desert dwellers, this high protein meal contains good quantities of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc, and is rich in the amino acid lysine (good for those suffering from cold sores) as well. It is also high in dietary fibre. It has a sweet, rich, molasses-like flavour with a hint of caramel which blends well with carob and maca.
Research highlights that mesquite is incredibly effective at balancing blood sugar. Fibre acts as a control rod, slowing the speed of absorption. Pods are 25% fibre, allowing slow absorption preventing peaks and troughs in blood sugar levels. With a low glycaemic index of 25, mesquite requires a longer time to digest then many grains. The digestive time for mesquite is 4 to 6 hours helping maintain constant blood sugar levels and preventing hunger.
Agave is a succulent plant, related to the yucca and lily that grows in the southern and western United States and in central and tropical South America. Agave syrup is a low-glycaemic sweetener.
What makes agave superior to sugar? Sugar is a processed sweetener that has no nutritive value, other than calories. And agave, as compared to other sweeteners, has a desirable low-glycaemic index, this means that when consumed, it won't cause a sharp rise or fall in blood sugar.
Agave contains saponins and fructans. Some studies show saponins, which are found on quinoa and many plant roots, including ginseng, have anti-inflammatory and immune system-boosting properties, including antimicrobial capability. In fact, the Aztecs used agave syrup to treat wounds because of its antibacterial properties.
Inulin, present in agave, is a type of fructan or fibre that has many health benefits. Studies suggest that inulin can be effective in weight loss because of its low impact on blood sugar and its ability to increase satiety and decrease appetite. Inulin is also associated with lowering cholesterol, reducing the risk of certain cancers, and increasing the absorption of nutrients, such as isoflavones, calcium and magnesium.

Their high monounsaturated fat content, a key fat found in many Mediterranean diets, gives them much greater benefits than simply being cholesterol-lowering. Nearly every research study shows those who eat a traditional Mediterranean diet not only have a lower risk of heart disease and cancer, they also live longer.
Although almonds are high in fat and calories, eating them in moderation can actually help with weight loss!
Organic Cacao Powder
Why Raw Dark Chocolate May Promote Health benefits
Cacao has more antioxidant flavonoids than any food tested so far, including blueberries, red wine, and black and green teas. In fact, it has up to four times the quantity of antioxidants found in green tea. Possible health benefits of these antioxidants may include:
*Cacao seems to be the number 1 source of magnesium of any food. Magnesium balances brain chemistry, builds strong bones, and helps regulate heartbeat and blood pressure. Magnesium deficiency is linked with PMT, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and joint problems.
*Cacao is high in the beauty mineral sulfur. Sulfur builds strong nails and hair, promotes beautiful skin, detoxifies the liver, and supports healthy pancreas functioning.
NB There is a misperception that ‘chocolate’ is fattening. In truth, it is not the cacao itself that is fattening but the full cream, milk and sugar that is added to it. Moc Chocs contain none of these. The fats in cocoa butter are essential healthy fats. Cacao contains oleic acid, a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, also found in olive oil, that may raise good cholesterol. Also, substances found in cacao are known to help reduce appetite!
